Help Students Stretch Higher

Ensure Students Have Empowered Futures

Walker’s Winners is a youth education initiative dedicated to helping K-12 students achieve lifelong success through literacy and personal development.

From Goal Setter to
Goal Getter

Part 1: Stretch Goals

Our partners work with students, and we support them in setting reading and math goals that inspire.

Part 2: The SEA Program

The SEA program encourages students to support one another's goals through teamwork, accountability, and peer celebration.

Part 3: Project-Based Career Exposure

Students explore real-world career paths through projects and mentorship.

Part 4: Summer Experiences

Learning continues beyond the classroom with summer camps and internships.

Messages from Our Founders

“I went to a great public school and got an excellent education. I had challenging classes and liked learning – I especially liked math. Because of my experience I know firsthand the difference a good education can make so I want to encourage young people to be great students. Even though I grew up in Atlanta, St. Louis is my new home. I want to make an impact here.”

— Jordan Walker, Co-Founder & MLB Player, St. Louis Cardinals

“I believe that the strength of our nation is built in our public schools and that students’ ability to maximize their potential should not be defined by their family’s zip code or bank account. Great outcomes are achieved through collaboration so Walker’s Winners partners with schools, community organizations and other professionals to help young people achieve empowered futures.”

— Katrina M. Walker, Co-Founder & Executive Director

How it works

Students who complete the program are honored at a special celebration with Jordan Walker and their families.

01. Set Goals

Students set stretch goals in reading and math.

02. Stay Consistent

Students’ progress is checked and encouraged. Adults and peers hold them accountable to their goals.

03. Explore & Grow

Students discover career pathways through project-based learning and mentorship. Summer camps and internships extend learning beyond the classroom, with incremental successes recognized along the way.

04. Celebrate Wins

Goal Getters are celebrated at a banquet at the end of the school year or the summer session.

What Parents and Volunteers Are Saying

Stories from the community showing the lasting impact of Walker’s Winners.

“The WW program gave my scholars a specific targeted goal to reach in reading and math. I appreciated the incentives throughout the summer, and the highlighted portion at the ceremony at the game.”

— MX Servant Leader Intern, LifeWise StL

“I believe the WW program allowed scholars to identify SMART and STRETCH goals at an early age. I admired how serious our scholars were when summarizing their stories, completing math, and reading for understanding. Each scholar was able to get an incentive, and this encouraged them to work harder while enjoying reading and doing math drills and skills.”

— Erik Jefferson Teen Advisor – Freshman/Sophomore & Freedom School Site Coordinator,
LifeWise STL

“Walker’s Winners had students creating achievable goals that they could take pride in. Students met the goals with enthusiasm and perseverance.”

— Catherine L. Todd Assistant Principal, Confluence Academy Old North – St. Louis, MO

"By the end of the program, our assessment data showed measurable gains in fluency, comprehension, and math reasoning. More importantly, our students rediscovered the joy of learning and began the new school year feeling prepared and confident."
